Other Counties

While the majority of Dellers until 1901 lived in the counties of Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Berkshire & London, individual families did spread to other regions of England. There was a natural drift into the nearby home counties of Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey & Sussex, mainly following work opportunities, but some families made more dramatic moves. Some headed for the coalfields and cotton mills of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire & Lancashire, others followed their work on the evolving railway network down to the west country, settling in Devon, Dorset & Cornwall. One family, headed by Richard Dellow (# 2497, born 1815 in St. George in the East, London) headed for the northeast and settled in Durham & Northumberland. Up until 1901 every Dellow in the northeast was descended from this one adventurous individual!
